New partnership to provide $25,000 in meal assistance

Washington, DC (July 22, 2021) — The Elizabeth Dole Foundation announces a new partnership with DoorDash to provide meal assistance to military caregiver families in moments of crisis. The program will offer community credits for meal deliveries to military and veteran families caring for a loved one living with a service-connected injury or illness. The community credits will be provided to those families experiencing acute medical challenges, financial stress, or other unexpected hurdles that make it difficult to find immediate access to an affordable meal.

Military caregivers are frequently the sole breadwinner for their families, and most are balancing the responsibilities of managing a household, childcare, and legal and financial obligations, with caring for their loved one. At times, these challenging circumstances can pile up and put military caregivers and their families at the sudden risk of hunger or homelessness. Through this partnership, the Foundation and DoorDash will provide these families with food and comfort during these difficult times.

“The Elizabeth Dole Foundation understands the unique challenges our country’s military caregivers face every single day,” said Steve Schwab, CEO of Elizabeth Dole Foundation. “Thanks to our partners at DoorDash, we’re able to step in and provide meals to caregivers and their families when they need it most – at the hospital, in times of crisis or natural disasters, or when they can’t afford to put dinner on the table.”

This partnership is through DoorDash’s Community Credits program which provides DoorDash gift cards to nonprofits that share in the company’s vision to serve members of their communities. Having meals, essentials, and other items can make a difference for these groups as they work to create greater access and equity for their communities.

“DoorDash is honored to join forces with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to serve military caregivers and families during times of uncertainty and need,” said Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean, Vice President, Communications & Policy at DoorDash. “We are proud to empower those facing medical, financial, and other challenges by providing  access to food, essentials, and more, so that they can devote time to doing more of what really matters: supporting their families and communities.”

Military and veteran caregivers can become eligible for this offer by registering at hiddenheroes.org/register and joining the Hidden Heroes Caregiver Community (HHCC) Facebook group. The Foundation will provide information about accessing meal gift cards to registered caregivers in HHCC in the weeks ahead.
