WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elizabeth Dole Foundation, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Philips will co-host the Fourth Annual National Convening on Veteran Caregivers, “Hidden Heroes Among Us: Inspiring Community Action in the Caregiver Journey” on October 21, 10 am – 5 pm at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.

This annual event has become a focal point for national leaders, subject matter experts, advocates and practitioners concerned with veterans’ care and caregiver support. Senator Elizabeth Dole will open the event by outlining a vision for empowering communities to further assist veteran caregivers at the local level. The Honorable Robert Wilkie, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, will provide an update on the VA’s efforts to better support caregivers and assist them in caring for their loved ones.

Throughout the event, new caregiver initiatives will be announced and debuted. Among them:

  • Philips will showcase new telehealth solutions and share the notable adoption of the Military Caregiver Journey Map in local communities
  • The Foundation, VA and USAA will present an early preview of the Academy for Inclusive Care—an online continuing education program to better integrate caregivers into the clinical care team across VA facilities
  • The Foundation and Booz Allen Hamilton will demo a new data analytics platform that will identify highly-concentrated veteran caregiver communities and help partners better anticipate caregiver needs

The convening will also include presentations by veteran caregivers and roundtable discussions on key topics, including suicide prevention and building community models of caregiver support.
