During the summer of 2016, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation worked with the U.S. Conference of Mayors to pass an important Resolution to encourage cities to increase resources for military and veteran caregivers.
To inspire participation, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation established the Hidden Heroes Cities and Counties Program, a growing network of cities and counties to better serve our caregivers and share best practices.
In 2019, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation partnered with the National Association of Counties, realizing that counties also serve a crucial role in providing information and resources to the veteran and military community.

Hidden Heroes Cities and Counties Summit
The Elizabeth Dole Foundation hosted its first-ever Hidden Heroes Cities and Counties Summit on October 7th, 2020.
The Summit convened city and county leaders from across the nation to discuss effective strategies for supporting military caregivers in local communities from coast to coast. During the Summit, speakers from Comcast-NBCUniversal, NACo, AARP, and others shared their insights on how local and state officials can work with public and private sector partners to build local systems for caregiver support while sharing examples of the work municipalities have done to serve the Hidden Heroes in their community.
