Elizabeth Dole Foundation Awards Grant to Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania

Washington, D.C.  – Western Pennsylvania nonprofit, Veterans Leadership Program (VLP), was awarded a grant from the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Hidden Heroes Fund today, in support of its efforts to impact the lives of military and veteran caregivers. VLP is among thirteen organizations nationwide receiving funding for innovative and evidence-based programs that address the long-term needs of military caregivers, the spouses, parents, and loved ones caring for wounded, ill or injured service members and veterans at home.

“Through the Hidden Heroes Fund, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation continues to build a strong, nationwide network of support for America’s military caregivers,” announced Senator Elizabeth Dole, president of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. “This year’s recipients are some of the most respected organizations working on behalf of the veterans’ community and caregivers, and together, they will help ensure our nation supports our hidden heroes for years to come.”

The Hidden Heroes Fund grant will support VLP’s “Western Pennsylvania Hidden Heroes” program, which will provide military and veteran caregivers with a vital support network to help ease the enormous responsibility of providing constant care to those who have been injured in the line of duty. Military caregivers will be provided social and networking opportunities so that they may find local support; provided with employment training, resume tailoring, mock interviews, job leads, and child care assistance so that they may obtain employment opportunities; the program will provide financial literacy to include the creation of budgets and savings plans; and military caregivers will be given the opportunity to participate in health and wellness fairs so that they can be provided the tools to help them become and stay healthy.

“Veterans Leadership Program is honored to have been selected as a recipient of the 2018 Hidden Heroes Fund,” said Dr. Ben Stahl, CEO of VLP. “We look forward to working with the Dole Foundation to provide much needed services to Western Pennsylvania Military and Veteran Caregivers.”
